Rapidly reducing the reservoir level may cause dam instability because of the substantial pore water pressures that remain inside the dam. A fully coupled flow-deformation analysis employing finite element approach is necessary to analyze such a situation . In a stability analysis, time-dependent pore pressure is coupled with deformation development. This example shows how coupled analysis and stability analysis can be performed interactively in PLAXIS 2D.

The webinar comprises of:

  • Modelling of earth dam and determination of its stability for various load conditions
  • Establishing time-dependent hydraulic conditions (Flow functions)
  • Determining transient flow conditions based on water levels
PLAXIS has established itself as one of the most trusted standalone software solutions for dealing with a wide range of critical geotechnical challenges, including deformation and stress determination and, most importantly, assessing safety factor of each construction stage. The detailed stresses and risk response it generates constitute the basis for engineers to make all critical decisions.
