Visually Communicate Your Infrastructure Designs with MicroStation

WEBINAR SERIES

Communicate Your Infrastructure Projects with MicroStation's Visualization Capabilities

Infrastructure Projects are not created in a void; when designing, one must consider all stakeholders, and while drawings, plans, and even 3D models might suffice to communicate our design intentions to engineers, they are simply not enough to communicate with all parties, such as your client, the public, or others.

Utilizing MicroStation to Visually Communicate Your Design Projects

Elevate Your Designs with Visualization Capabilities in MicroStation + LumenRT

Kurt Stiles, founder of the Visual Engineering Resource Group at Washington State DOT, will show us how WSDOT utilizes MicroStation to create visual representations of infrastructure projects using MicroStation – from 3D rendering, to Photomatching, and everything in between. From planning and communication to design and construction, these visualizations are key to any project's success. Best of all? Becoming a visual communicator is at the grasp of every engineer, today, with MicroStation.

What you will learn in the two webinar sessions:

  • How to use the visualization tools in MicroStation to become a better communicator and increase the buy-in for your projects.
  • Finishing the 3D design model surfaces, locating, and applying materials to those surfaces along with basic rendering views.
  • What the Photomatching command is and a basic work-flow demonstration. Plus acquiring ground and aerial imagery by camera, drone, and helicopter, for real-world context for Photomatching purposes.
  • Benefits of providing & using your own 3D visualizations for project development.

Kurt Stiles

Co-Founder & Manager, Visual Engineering Resource Group at WA State Dept. of Transportation

Following 10 years of military service and college for civil engineering, Kurt found work at the Washington State DOT in structural engineering. In 1998 he joined a pioneering group at the DOT doing 3D modeling for project visualizations. In 2007 he became the manager and created the Visual Engineering Resource Group (VERG). Today, VERG is a nationally recognized group in producing visual media for explaining infrastructure change. From planning, through design, to construction, VERG provides a “visual-voice” of understanding so projects gain consent and get built.
